Week 8

Well, we've came back to Miri. Holiday Mood is still tune on but then, it's dangerous if it's too long like this week. No motivation to be serious. So somehow, somewhere, we got to start to do some work. I'm actually happy that I've completed at least one assignment before coming back to Miri.

I also had completed TITAS assignment with my pair, Doris, just in time. There were also sleepless nights to complete it. And we had TITAS class from 3-9 pm on Friday. Gosh. It was really a tiring week to actually finish up some work since all the due dates are catching up! While we're busy doing our assignment, my other PISMP friends are also busy preparing with their exam next week!

Despite being busy with the work load, there was also Choir time. I love singing especially when we unite our voices together and it's angelic. This Choir practices is for next week annual dinner of this IP. I'm really excited with the event! Being in choir has also given me the opportunity to meet up the new friends like the juniors and get along with the seniors. I really admire them. Tho their exam is coming soon, they still come to sing! We've been practicing like crazy these few days and the songs, I guarantee is nice tho we lack of girls to sing. Surprisingly, this choir consist of lots of boys. Strong Man Power!


About strong man power, have you heard of Greyson Chance?! My gosh! He's coming to KK and the 17th and I'm only going back on the 18th of this month. AH!!!! I just missed him by a day. His voice and songs are just pure great! Just a thought tho~

Back to business on this subject, well, we're still into the article review. We've divided our parts well. So i hope, we wont have any stumbles along the way. As I've said last week that it's about E-Learning, so we had look through journals online about it. I hope that in our article review, we'll be able to write a good piece out like those journals.

Week 7

It's finally the holiday! And I'm back in my hometown KK~ Home Sweet Home. I've also got to enjoy my time with my IPG Gaya friends celebrating a Deepavali Special! We went out to Jalan-Jalan Cari Makan KK version! We started off from Suria, Asia City then Centre Point. This holiday is indeed meaningful to me. To be able to be with my friends and family. ooo and I've watched with my mother Sung Kyun Kwan Scandal, a popular Korean Drama for the past few days. Few more episodes to go!~

Tonnes of work(assignment) are waiting for me. Guess for the past few days, I've really been drilling myself to do work. Weird thing is that, the motivation is not there. But I did do a little of it. Like one paragraph per day would be better than nothing right? "Smiles"

We can't escape from Educational Technology as well, this time, all groups were assign to do an article review based on any articles related to this subject. We're to stick in the same group to do this assignment:~ Aileen, Joe, Allen, Jennie and I. We chose E-Learning because it's relevant in this era of moment. Guess it will be a challenge to us since this topic is still in infancy state in Malaysia tho the government has funded a sum that is not small in this feild. Well, no pain, no gain. So we've accepted the challenge to write the best we can do.

Week 6

Remember the week when we were to present to the class about the video?

So this time, with the same group, Aileen, Abang Jo, Allen, Jen and I, were to construct a lesson plan/ micro teaching and present it to the whole class and our lecturer of course. 

We had some experience in creating a lesson plan last semester. So it had really helped us pull through this assignment.  

So we divided our task in constructing the lesson plan. I was to do the post-listening activity. With every ones co-operation, we finally manage to complete it and even created task sheets for students.

Our aim is for form 3 average students where we will conduct the class for 2 periods= 80 minutes. And our theme is about Natural Disasters focusing on Flash Floods. 

Finally, we presented it and Mr. Sarihan did give some good advice to all groups. He also explains to us what criteria he wants. 

We did some adjustment in the video as the previous video sounds were not clear. 

Personally, I think I've gain some knowledge in this assignment/ activity conducted. It shows that ICT can really be a great teaching tool to the students. Take for example, the video, it really can trigger students interests about floods. Pictures too do give a great contribution to churn the students interest. 

The process of doing it alone compared to a group is really different as doing group work. We are able to brainstorm ideas together and get to know each other talents and characteristics. I'm really happy that this is done as a group as we get to complete it and produce a wonderful lesson plan/ micro teaching activity. 

I think all groups presented it well. Sure, we may have minor flaws, but i believe all this is of great help to every one so that when we are teachers in the future, we will not repeat the flaws but be great and effective teachers.

Week 5

Our lecturer has taught us new input this week. This time, it was related to presentations. On how to create a good presentation using the CASPER model. CASPER in here is not the friendly ghost but it's an abbreviation from the words:

C-   Contrast

A- Alignment

S- Simplicity

P- Proximity

E- Emphasis

R- Repetition

In order to create an effective presentation, we need to use not more than 3 colors in the fonts and presentation. We must use colors which contrast with one another such as Black-White or Blue-Yellow.
In the alignment, If text are at the left, it's just the points. But if you want to emphasize on certain text, put it in the middle. And color it. Do not put more than 20 words in the slide. If not, people would turn out reading the slide instead of focusing your presentation. You can also put images, but not too many. In simplicity, do not pack your slide with words and images that a person will lose focus on it. Do not put spaces too wide or scattered on your words and images. Use the same type of font and size to maintain the focus instead of putting every words and colors different in each slide. If you want to emphasize on an image, just put one and don't focus on too many. Change the font color too if you aim to emphasize on it more. And finally, if you want more emphasize on images, words, and shape, repeat it so that your audience will remember.

So that's the CASPER technique.
Do apply it so it will be more effective on your slides and presentation. Add up some spices such as confident and enthusiasm as well to bring up the spirit of the audience.

Week 4

We started off this week by presenting our site: our blogspot to the entire class. Though each individual had a brief moment in introducing their blog, we had a chance to see how people organize and design their blog. Each blog was unique as the owner decorated it with animation and different gadgets. I would like to thank our lecturer for giving us positive feedback.

I presented mine too, as you can see, it's pretty simple. With the background and the gadgets that I have, you can actually enjoy reading and exploring it with the music that will be playing. I am happy and pleased with my blog. Here's a little history about this blog, it's called Rachel's Patches as it was inspired by our lecturer Mr. Norsarihan's blog which was called hansterritory. The word territory imply that there is an area where there is a ruler. So he is the ruler of the place. Patches is a similar name for territory but much more mild. So there you go: Rachel's Patches. There are a variety of 3 music that you will hear. A Korean (emotional), Chinese (dreamy) and English (love) song. All songs are very soothing to listen. Do enjoy!

We were also given a group work to present a powerpoint about Video in Multimedia on an allocated date. While other groups were also assign with different titles. 

 

I do hope that by the end of the semester, I will be able to learn many interesting things related to technology that will be a great help in the future! Hope to learn new things next week! 

Week 3

Welcome back readers!

Sorry about the late post. This week was really busy. But anyway, here's a report about last week on what I've learnt.

So, on Week 3, Mr. Sarihan taught us about ASSURE model so that we'll apply the knowledge in a lesson plan. 

The above are the points of the model. So before making a lesson plan, take your time to brainstorm for a while with the points above so it's effective.

We also learnt about Instructional Design where it an be applied in different theory such as Instructional Design as a

2. Discipline

3. Science

4. Reality

As a closing, I'm really happy that I;m able to learn something new again! And do read up about ASSURE model so that you'll gain some knowledge about it. 

A Simple Introduction

Week 2

Hello and welcome back!

Well, for week 2, we had to do a group presentation which involves video editing, audio editing and slides in teaching a topic related in the Form 2 syllabus. So thus, 4 groups of 5 people were formed. The group members in group 2 were Abang Joe, Aileen, Allen, Jennie and me.

The output of the video were presented in class. All of us got a chance to see all the other group presentation. It was indeed an interesting moment to see how and what did the other groups chose in creating and presenting.

Group 1 did on poetry recital. I think that it was interesting as it includes the audience to recite along the poem. The video right at the end also showed an example of how students do a choral speaking on reciting the Daffodils. It's really encouraging to see younger generation in performing such beautiful literature.

Group 2, which was my group presented about floods. We inserted videos to show the impact of floods and many pictures with the background of our recorded audio and appropriate (emo) songs.

Group 3, presented on adjectives which I think it's simple yet good. It is good as they gave many examples and show the usage of the words in various ways. They also had recorded audio which was interesting as one role plays another in teaching adjectives. (Eg: Dr. Nigel was interviewed by reporter Hilman.) The last part of the video had a complimentary song as it shows a recorded event where Freddy sang Angels. It was beautiful. I think inserting a video at the back where students can chill out and relax is wonderful before they proceed in doing other work.

Group 4 also did on adjectives in a more detailed manner. They had many songs included in it.

Overall, Mr. Norsarihan thinks that our job was in a level of satisfaction. Well, I think we did a job not bad. (The feeling=It's like the first time in doing it and it's already accepted- o yeah!). I believe that in the long run we could be better than this. I believe in every good video, appropriate and catchy songs should be inserted. Words got to be bold or at least not that thin to be seen from afar. Transition is also very important as it effects the smoothness of the video. Recorded audio should also be short and clear.

So, as teachers to be, we got to be well equip with ICT as students are in par with or maybe even more smarter than us about it. But it's still never too late to learn and teach the others. We should also always insert different types of ideas to cater for diverse learners such as the video presentation.

Week 1

Hello and Welcome!

I'm Rachel Chin from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Currently a TESL student, joining a twinning between UKM-IPGKS. 

It has been a short break since the last semester. And finally, we kicked-start the 2nd year of Uni by taking 5 subjects:

Well, truth be told, I thought that I have graduated from studying ICT stuff since we had a 2 months of short drilling in ICT. However, this blogspot is a scrapbook for Educational Technologies which pulled me  into reality that we're going to learn more stuff on ICT. Though I do have a little phobia on this course due to past experience, but I think that it's going to be exciting as I'm going to learn some more new stuff! ICT never fails to impress me with new knowledge. Again, learning is an on-going process. And we cannot live in denial that ICT is a great source of help to all man-kind as we get to live a life so much more easier. I believe this course will definitely help me in the future as a teacher. 

Mr. Norsarihan Ahmad will be teaching this course. And in the first week, he briefly explain to us about the outline of this subject. He explained to us what is Web 1.0, Web 2.0 and Web 3.0. He also elaborated why we must insert ICT in the teaching field in the future. We also must understand that education is always evolving, so we must also equip ourselves with knowledge to teach the future generation and not just sticking to the old-school format.

In this first week, we were required:

1. To create a blogspot (Done!)

2. Create our own background (Done!)

3. Complete a profile pic (Done!)

4. Write a Reflection (Done!)

5. Create a Podcast

6. Follow our lecturer blog  (Done!)

7. Create a Wiki account (Done!)

We were also required to take some pictures. And to install adobe photo shop.

I think doing all of this is easy. However, laziness is the source of procrastination and the boundary to continue this is actually because of staying in the comfort zone. It seems that to fully unleash the true potential of one is to break free from FEAR= False Expectation Appearing Real.

So, I hope in the weeks ahead , I will gain a more insightful knowledge in ICT and that I'm able to survive when learning all the subject in this new semester.
